Who We Are

At Toronto Met Formula Racing we collaborate as a team to design, build and race a formula-style open-wheeled race car. Every year we compete in multiple racing events including the annual Formula SAE Michigan competition where we compete against 120 universities from across the globe. We foster a community in which our members can grow into well-rounded leaders, ready for their future careers.

Our team members come from all different programs and faculties at Toronto Metropolitan University. We have members from programs in engineering, business, arts, and many more. What all of our members have in common is a passion for what they do and a drive to continuously grow and improve.

This year we have separated our goals into two sections; our car and our team. We know that the morale and education of our team members directly relate to the performance of our car. So we are working harder than ever to give our members the best team experience possible.

Additionally, we are switching to an electric vehicle, and are currently seeking members who are eager to learn as we make the switch! 

Our Goals

Competition

Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is an international competition between students that involves designing, manufacturing, and competing formula-style open-wheeled race cars. Numerous restrictions are placed on the design of the Formula SAE vehicles to challenge the knowledge and ingenuity of the competitors. The vehicles must meet strict standards of driver safety and design.

This competition is the most anticipated event of the season and our team is always excited to compete, interact with the other teams, meet industry professionals and gain a one-of-a-kind experience.

Our Team

The Toronto Metropolitan Formula Racing team embodies a culture of excellence and camaraderie, supported by strong values of communication, trust, accountability, learning, and quality. Known for their dedication and hard work, team members collaborate seamlessly to innovate and refine their university F1 car. Their friendly and approachable demeanor fosters a supportive environment where each member contributes their expertise, ensuring continuous improvement and success both on and off the track.

Our team is currently running hybrid. We host in-person, and virtual meetings via Google Meets to accommodate members who cannot attend in-person. Also, our main form of communication is through our workspace messaging app, Slack. The design of our electric vehicle is underway and on track as usual - we’re making the best out of this new virtual world! We are very excited to teach new members valuable skills that turn what they learn in the classroom into the hands-on experience that employers are looking for. 

Being a lead or team member with TMFR frequently leads to unique job prospects following graduation from Toronto Metropolitan University. Our team members are known for obtaining high-grade internships and research opportunities with professors. Additionally, our alumni work everywhere from Tesla and Honda to business firms and more, with job offers right out of school.

Job Prospects and Internships

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is an international engineering organization known across the globe. Having experience on an engineering design team in the FSAE league - whether it is on the business or engineering side - stands out on a resume.

Joining the team isn’t a complicated process - we’re looking for everyone and anyone from business and arts faculty students for our ever-growing business team, to engineering and science faculty students for our design and manufacturing side of the team. Everyone is welcome!
